Wondery is the largest independent podcast publisher in the US. Thirteen of Wondery’s shows have reached # 1 on Apple Podcasts, and Wondery is the only publisher to have simultaneously claimed the # 1 and # 2 ‘Top New Podcasts” slots on an annual Podtrac ranker. A number of our podcasts are being or have been developed for television, including Dirty John (Bravo), Gladiator (FX), and Dr. Death (UCP).
WONDERY is looking for a Director of Development, TV & Film to join our rapidly growing team in Los Angeles. Reporting to the Chief Content Officer and working with our CEO, you will assist in overseeing the development of our podcasts into projects for TV and film. We already have a number of podcasts in series development.
- Writing notes on drafts, identifying key talent, and working with our production partners to identify talent for shows in development.
- Identifying new writers and creative talent.
- Forming strong relationships within the creative community (including writers, producers, directors, agents, managers, etc.) and with our creative partners
- Helping to identify podcast series or individual episodes within the Wondery network that are ripe for adaptation, then figuring out the best path to adaptation, and working to bring on the right creative team.
The ideal candidate will be a passionate fan and habitual podcast listener. You will have a strong understanding of structure and narrative storytelling. You should have at least 5 years experience in TV or feature film production or development, including at the creative executive level or higher. You have some experience working with adapting pre-existing IP. You are someone who gives great script notes. You are organized, committed, self-motivated, an out-of-the-box thinker, and an avid reader/ viewer/listener. You already have strong relationships within the creative community.
This is a full-time position, preferably working in our Los Angeles office, but open to other locations.
Competitive pay commensurate with experience.
